6 Relaxing Ways to Reset Your Mind and Body

*This article was first published in July 2017.

Our well-being directly affects our actions and emotions, hence it is very important to keep your mind, body, and soul in check regularly. The mid-year mark is the perfect time to hit that reset button so take a step back from your hectic schedule to recharge and allow yourself to come back anew with fresh new perspectives, skills and purpose. These six Singaporean guides will help you get started on a path of rejuvenation.

Transport Yourself To Another World

We know travel restrictions are still largely implemented in many parts of the world but that doesn’t stop us from wanting to plan our next expedition. Singapore Tourism Board’s “Travel Throwback” social media initiative is aimed to spark interest in Southeast Asia and encourage travellers to prioritise the region as a focal area to explore once international travel fully resumes. Travellers across Southeast Asia are invited to share their favourite travel throwbacks by using “TravelThrowback” Instagram Effect available on @Visit_Singapore’s Instagram page. While you might not be able to get to these destinations, these amazing images will inspire you to dream of wanderlust for Southeast Asian destinations.

Immerse Yourself in Music

Elevate your mood through music and dance performances live from your home space through From The Living Room, a month-long series by the National Arts Council Singapore. 30 different Singaporean artists and groups will take centre-stage to serenade and conduct musical ensembles for you to unwind and enjoy the experience from home. This musical treat will stream every weeknight at 8pm exclusively on the National Arts Council’s Facebook page.

Just breathe

If you’ve been feeling restless lately, it is definitely time to go back to the basics of living. Try these deep breathing exercises by Visit Singapore. All you need is 45 seconds to destress and find a focus with this audio and visual experience to help you enter a peaceful state of mind.

Curl Up With A Good Book

As the saying goes, “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body”. Digital bookworms out there will be able to expand their minds and escape through the literary wonders of e-books and audiobooks from the National Library Board. Take your pick and fill your hours with a good read from new on-the-shelf material to self-help books.

Learn To Compose

Grab your laptop, take a seat, and play Mozart’s Serenade No. 13. We don’t mean just on your music player but actually playing his music through this 101 class of classical music composition. The National University of Singapore has rolled out a free online course, Write Like Mozart: An Introduction to Classical Music Composition where you’ll get to learn the fundamentals of European art music.
