Who could resist a face like this? Photo: Warner Bros/YouTube

At this point in time, you will no doubt be familiar with this little guy:

People (and by people, we mean pokéfans) are accustomed him usually tagging along with his human, Ash Ketchum and being confined to only uttering the words “Pika pika!” So it’s no wonder that the trailer for the new Pokémon movie, Detective Pikachu, has people a little surprised. See for yourself:

Whoa.

Pikachu can talk! And he’s a detective? And he’s fluffy?! When did all these changes take place?! It’s like a baby going through puberty.

And by this point you’ve probably realised that pikachu doesn’t actually sound small and cute. He kinda sounds like…Deadpool.

Some people say it’s basically Deadpool stuck in Pikachu’s body. And by that, they mean that it’s really just Ryan Reynolds playing himself in Pikachu’s body.

Here’s what people are saying about Pikachu’s new look:

Fans of the franchise will be pleased to catch glimpses of other pokémons, such as charmander, psyduck, bulbasaur, jigglypuff and charizard. Oh and Ken Watanabe makes an appearance too, not that he’s a pokémon or anything.

They’ll no doubt also be excited to see a world where humans and pokémon co-exist brought to life (and not one where crowds flock to Taman Jaya to try and catch a pikachu on their mobile phones). Pokémon Go seems like a long time ago, doesn’t it?
