Drive the Difference: What Makes This Car Safe and Elegant
Since the birth of Lexus in 1989, the ES model has been one of its most popular. The latest in the series marks the 7th generation of its release and is certainly head-turning. Its elegant silhouette is not just attractive, it is also aerodynamically efficient thanks to its sloping roofline, lower bonnet and roof, and longer wheelbase and body. In addition to that, its other features such as the Aero Stabilizing Fins on the door frame covers, sides of the rear lamps and underbody covers act as “vortex generators” to manage airflow along the sides and underneath the car’s body. Taking corners with the ES has never been more stable.

Also thanks to a newly developed 2.5-litre in-line 4-cylinder petrol engine (A25A-FKS) and a VVT-iE (Variable Valve Timing – Intelligent by Electric Motor) paired with a new 8-speed Direct Shift Automatic Transmission featuring AI (Artificial Intelligence) Shift Control, acceleration is seamless and comfortable; one barely feels like there is much movement.
Inside the ES, the semi-aniline leather seats offer the ultimate comfort and style, plus it is extra roomy. The driver-centric cockpit is complemented by a more open and spacious layout along with added attention to detail to the quality and finish of the cabin, which exudes a new level of calm of peacefulness. It is a key element of the omotenashi hospitality that Lexus is well-known for.

There has been great care and detail taken into the ES passengers’ experience. They are able to enjoy added relaxation with the ability to adjust their seats, including variable cushion lengths to optimise support under the thighs, a shoulder switch for the rear passenger to make adjustments of the front passenger seat for extra leg room, power-reclining rear seats which allows rear passengers to relax in comfort, a feature is not commonly found in vehicles in its class, a reading light for rear seat passengers plus internal ventilation in the seats and a climate control system that will be a welcome relief from humid afternoons. And everything is kept in check with several taps on the Remote Touch Interface. It features a touchpad using vibration feedback to assist the driver’s awareness of cursor movements and button selection on the display.

Even the level of quietness has been taken into consideration with the use of technologies and design adopted from Lexus’ flagship Sedan, the LS, to provide sound insulation noise blocking and absorption which was adopted from Lexus LS flagship sedan. It is so silent that the kids will be able to take a nap in the backseat undisturbed. Just try not to fall asleep at the wheel; it’s that comfortable.
Lexus has equipped the ES driver with a Head-Up Display (HUD) that is the largest in its class with a display area of 260mm x 97.5mm high projected on the windscreen at an optimum visual distance so that the focus is on the display and the objects in front of the car. Focus is kept on the road ahead by locating the centre display screen and instrument panel in a tight cluster within their field of view.
Additional safety features have been added to the ES, a key feature that Lexus takes seriously, which when driving makes the car and its passengers feel ultra secure. The latest version of the Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+) adds new capabilities and increases the range of driving scenarios in which it can provide extra alerts and safeguards to help prevent an accident from happening. This includes a comprehensive Pre-Collision System (PCS) using a radar and cameras to detect vehicles or obstacles, Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) which helps keep the car from unintentionally moving outside a lane and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) with Stop & Go Function, which is capable of low speed following from 30km/h and below. The DRCC system will automatically maintain a safe distance with a vehicle ahead, adjusting the set cruising speed as necessary. In the event the car has to stop due to the vehicle ahead stopping, the system remains active and will start moving the car again once the front vehicle moves off.

Other notable safety features include the Active Cornering Assist, which helps the driver to maintain the desired line along winding roads and steers the car to keep within the road’s lines; sensors around the car, which detect obstacles and alerts the driver; a pedestrian detection feature which will alert the driver so that caution will be taken while reversing, a Blind Spot Monitor that detects vehicles in the blind spots along the sides and the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) that detects vehicles approaching from either side when the car is reversing out of a parking bay. If you tend to have trouble maneuvering narrow roads and parking in tight spaces, the ES’ new Panoramic View Monitor will guide you through seamlessly.
