Fine-dining in Langkawi: From Farm To Table in 6 Hours
During the latest version of Enrich Luxe Retreats in Langkawi, six Enrich members were taken on a culinary excursion at The Datai. From Malay food at The Gulai House, to Thai food at The Pavilion. From healthy lunch at the Beach Club to a special BBQ on the beach (complete with bonfire). But perhaps the most special experience was the 9-course degustation dinner at fine-dining restaurant The Dining Room.
The person in charge at The Dining Room is non other than Chai Chun Boon as Senior Chef de Cuisine. The Sarawakian has worked across the globe at Michelin star restaurants and with Michelin star chefs before opening his own restaurant, Copper, in Kuala Lumpur. In April 2022 he joined The Datai Langkawi, where the extensive garden allows him a farm-to-table approach for the menu. Chef Chai’s philosophy to cooking is using the freshest, locally sourced, ingredients he can find.

For the dinner with the Enrich guests, Chef Chai invited host Deborah Henry into the garden to pick the ingredients for the evening. Including some honey from the beehives, although upon seeing the (stingless) bees, Deborah fled the scene. In the kitchen Deborah was put to work by Chef Chai. There she learned the preparation and techniques that go into creating the wonderful dishes for the 9 courses.
