Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur’s New Menu For The New Normal

Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur has been embracing the new normal swimmingly since the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) was implemented by the government amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. During Ramadan, they introduced affordable and delicious box set meals for delivery and takeaway. Now, they are showcasing a special menu spread that features a delectable selection of their restaurants’ specialties.

The hotel, which is just a stone’s throw away from the iconic KLCC, reopened for dine-in customers as of 10 June. The new menu isn’t the only thing that’s been introduced, a new dining setting has also been arranged to comply with strict social distancing guidelines.

A joint effort between Hotel Maya’s main eateries, the newly curated menu includes selections from the Japanese/Cantonese restaurant Still Waters, Maya Brasserie and Rumah Tamah. Diners won’t have to worry about being too close to one another as tables are spaced well apart. Since the curated menu is a group effort, diners can choose to sit at whichever dining venues across the ground floor.

“We have put a lot of thought into ensuring a seamless experience despite the strict guidelines to social distance ourselves. After much contemplation, we decided to open all our dining venues with one innovative menu,” said Hotel Maya’s general manager Sharmini Moganasundram. “This not only allows diners to keep a safe distance from each other but allowing them to still enjoy their meals from their preferred ethnic cuisine at affordable prices,” she continued. There are three different set menus to choose from and prices start from RM60 onwards for two persons. If there are more people dining, it’s just an additional RM20 per person onwards for a complete four-course meal.

The variety of choices on the menu has a little something for everyone, which isn’t just limited to items on the set menus being offered. Combining dishes from the ala carte menu is also quite economical (for hotel standards). There are scrumptious appetisers that are perfect sharing platters. All-time favourites like the butter squid with salted egg yolk and the shelled tiger prawns wok-fried with butter, golden oats, curry leaves and birds-eye chilies, are perfectly balanced with the right crunch and spiciness to whet any appetite.

If you prefer an opener that’s a bit fresher, the Sushi Maki Mono Combo is highly recommended. Depending on how many people are within your group of diners, you can opt between a combination of 11 to 14 pieces of sushi. It includes plenty of sushi staples like salmon tataki, unagi, inari and crabstick.

Continuing the Oriental theme, the selection of delicious Chinese dishes should also be explored. The Deep Fried Spicy Fillet with Homemade Sauce and Shredded Young Mango, which is part of the Hibiscus Set Menu is a delightful dish that goes hand in hand with steaming hot rice. The selection of vegetables is very feasible. If you like a little bit of crunch in your greens, the Stir-Fried Sweet Peas with Celery, Carrot, Black Fungus, Lotus Roots, Gingko Nuts topped with Crispy Almond Flakes is the right kind of yum.

Throw in a little bit of Western vibe into the mix and nothing is more succulent than the Grilled Lamb Shoulder, which is complemented with the usual suspects: mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. It is a simple, yet very satisfying dish. And those with a sweet tooth will be spoilt for choice as there are many sweet treats to end your meal with. From the refreshing Chilled Sea Coconut with Longan and Lemon Syrup to a traditional favourite like Chinese Pancake with Lotus Paste, you can definitely expect decadent desserts.
