This New Instagrammable Matcha Cafe Has Healthy Options For Everyone
Matcha lovers are in for a treat because there’s a new cafe in town that actually doesn’t serve coffee. If you are a tea drinker or just want a change of beverage, Oh Cha Matcha, the first ever boutique matcha cafe, has opened in the neighbourhood of Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.
The owners behind the cafe, Choong Kar Wai and Choong Kar Heng, are no strangers to the cafe business, having opened CoffeeSociété in Publika and Garage 51 in Bandar Sunway. Realising that there is a need for healthy beverage options and in their quest of a healthier lifestyle, they decided to launch Oh Cha Matcha.
Decked in shades of pink and green, it’s no surprise that Oh Cha Matcha is also highly Instagrammable at every corner.

The cafe serves premium grade matcha concocted into delicious and healthy beverages that will energise the body and soul naturally. This ceremonial grade matcha is of the highest grade and the choice of the Emperor of Japan for tea ceremonies, grown in Uji, Kyoto. Made of ground green tea leaves, matcha has long been touted as a superfood with anti-oxidants that are believed to be able to fight cancer. If you’re looking for a caffeine kick, matcha can offer you that too, but it doesn’t contain as much caffeine as coffee.
So what does Oh Cha Matcha serve up? They have classics – Ceremonial Matcha (served with water only), Genmaicha (with popped, roasted rice), Hojicha (roasted green tea) and Matcha lattes. If you can’t have dairy, are vegetarian, or just want a healthier milk option, there are alternative milks available: soy, oat, almond, cashew and coconut milk, all unsweetened, completely natural with no colourings and low in calories.

There is a range of additional superfoods you can add to your drink in the ‘Drink Your Colours’ selection that is supposed to bring a multitude of health benefits. The Bentong Ginger, Turmeric Matcha is said to reduce muscle pain and soreness, menstrual pain and be anti-inflammatory; the Pandan, Lemongrass, Matcha (which we can imagine will be quite delish) will lower high blood pressure, is anti-inflammatory and eases nausea; and the Chrysanthemum Matcha is supposed to prevent osteoporosis, chronic illnesses and relax nerves.
Advocates of collagen will be glad to know that Oh Cha Matcha has a Beauty Series infused with 5000mg of collagen to improve skin elasticity, relieve joint pain, boost muscle mass, promote heart health and prevent bone loss. Flavours include rose, watermelon, purple sweet potato and beetroot, all with matcha, of course.
Should you be enjoying your matcha drink and feeling a tad famished, Oh Cha Matcha has you covered with food options too. Light bites, Japanese inspired rice bowls as well as carbonara and marinara style pastas are available.
