“This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival and my songs,” the award-winning Carey shared in an open letter on social media. “Writing this memoir was incredibly hard, humbling, and healing. My sincere hope is that you are moved to a new understanding, not only about me but also about the resilience of the human spirit.” A huge bonus for fans is the fact that Carey will also be performing the audiobook, which will weave musical moments through the delivery of her life’s story.
While waiting for her memoir to be released, Carey is treating her fans to special releases of rare footages of her past performances in celebration of the 30th anniversary of her self-titled debut album, in the coming months. She dropped the first #MC30, one of her very first live performances from Club Tatou in NYC is as a digital EP. The video of her rare performance is also featured on YouTube.
Carey has survived the test of time over the 30 years of her illustrious career and continues to remain relevant to the entertainment industry. In 2018, she released her 15th album Caution, and last year she rereleased her iconic holiday album, Merry Christmas for its 25th anniversary. The LP’s long-reigning single All I Want for Christmas Is You topped the RS Top 100 this past holiday season and after 25 years of its initial release, made it to the top of the Billboard chart. That achievement led to her 19th number hit during her entire career.
Since its release, All I Want For Christmas Is You has garnered her over US$60 million in royalties according to a 2017 report in the Economist. It is now touted as the highest-selling holiday digital song of all time in the United States, with 3.6 million downloads purchased, according to Billboard. On Christmas Eve of 2018, 10.8 million people streamed the track on Spotify.
Carey’s achievement with All I Want for Christmas Is You is the gift that keeps on giving her historic achievements. The song also made her the first artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 in four decades. She’s two songs short from beating The Beatles’ record of 20 number one hits. Rihanna trails behind her with 14. Love her or hate her, Mariah Carey still remains the most successful solo female artist of all time.
